Enabling individuals to advance their ITAM program for the future by providing next-level IT Asset Management best practices knowledge. These practices create a symbiotic relationship between ITAM and departments such as IT Security, IT, Finance, and HR by working in tandem to provide heightened information quality which significantly reduces risks, creates greater financial benefits, further enhances compliance, and increases efficiencies.
Our mission is to provide practical knowledge to individuals enabling them to implement IT management practices for their organization. These practices unify business and technology to create financial benefits, reduce risks, enhance compliance, and increase efficiencies.
ITAM IQ believes training courses should be clear, concise, complete, and, most of all, practical. Whether you seek training to validate what you do, enhance or confirm what you know, or be exposed to best practices used worldwide, ITAM IQ’s training promises to deliver! Our live, instructor-led courses go beyond the traditional lecture to allow time for answering your questions and providing consultation.
Available Courses:
SaaS Asset Management for SAM Certification
(SaaS specific)
This course focuses on managing the Software-as-a-Service asset for Software Asset Managers. While the software asset manager is well equipped to handle SaaS assets, the manager must know the significant differences between the SaaS and software assets.
Cloud Asset Managemen Certification
(Encompasses full lifecycle of cloud asset)
This course focuses on managing the three primary cloud architectures: Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS). While leveraging existing ITAM management best practices, these new asset types require different and new management approaches to maximize the value from the cloud investment while minimizing cost and risk.
ITAM / Cyber Security Workshop
In this workshop, discover how 37 ITAM program components supports:
- CIS's 19 Controls and 161 Safeguards, and
- NIST's 23 Functions and 108 Categories
Resulting in over 750 opportunities for IT security to advance its mission significantly.

IT asset management, or ITAM, is a profession and a discipline for managing IT assets to maximize their value to the organization.
The value is maximized by ensuring the asset is used to add value to the organization. First, this means the asset is purchased for a business purpose. Second, the asset is used responsibly and for its intended purpose. Third, the asset’s cost, risk, and compliance are monitored and managed. Finally, the asset is disposed of responsibly.
A proper ITAM program benefits the entire organization! IT security benefits through accurate inventories. Finance benefits with a clear understanding of the spend. Legal benefits from risk management. IT benefits through IT standards and formal approval processes. Project management benefits through standards and asset availability. End-users benefit from having the right tools for the role. And departments and business units that have their own IT budget benefit from having access to ITAM expertise.
A primary challenge for ITAM is coordinating the multiple departments and people that “touch” an asset or have a vested interest in the asset’s performance. For example, a “touch” can be made by the people that approve the IT budget, approve the purchase, order the asset, receive the asset, configure the asset, deploy the asset, store the asset, maintain the asset, use the asset, or dispose of the asset. People who have a vested interest in the asset include finance, legal, vendor management, HR, business unit leaders, and executive management.
SAM is a sub-discipline of ITAM and is focused on managing software assets. License Asset Management, or LAM, is a sub-discipline of SAM and is focused on addressing the details of specific software publisher’s licenses.
HAM is a sub-discipline of ITAM and is focused on managing hardware assets.
Cloud Asset Management (CAM) is a sub-discipline of ITAM and is the newest member of the ITAM family. CAM is focused on managing cloud assets, including the three primary cloud architectures Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS).
The cloud is technology products offered as a service for a fee by a third party. The cloud can also be an approach to designing IT systems.
There are many reasons why the cloud is valuable. Some of these reasons include scalability, affordability, and eliminating the distractions caused by hosting IT in-house.
Absolutely! The cloud asset easily meets the four criteria used to determine if an IT asset should be managed. The criteria are cost, compliance, risk, and efficiencies.
Yes! The cloud has demonstrated its value to small, medium, and large-sized organizations in every industry across the globe.
The short answer is, no. SAM focuses mainly on managing a product. SAM will manage software spending and software compliance. CAM focuses on the services that deliver products. CAM manages the cloud service provider throughout the asset's lifecycle and may call on SAM and HAM to manage their respective assets.
Certainly! And being a SAM is much more difficult with Infrastructure / Platform-as-a-Service (I/PaaS) cloud solutions. Why? Because corporate-owned software is running on infrastructure maintained by a third party.
FinOps plays a vital role but is focused on cost. CAM focuses on cost, risk, efficiencies, and compliance across all company verticals. There are many instances when cheaper is not better, and this is very important when it comes to the performance of a cloud service provider.
Absolutely! This may be the most significant challenge your organization faces. More of IT's budget is being distributed to non-IT departments creating risks for non-compliance events and overspending on IT.
You cannot outsource your risk to a third party. This is the "out of sight, out of mind" syndrome that could be a disaster for your organization. It is your organization's data and perhaps your organization's software in the hands of a vendor who has very little liability regarding your organization's reputation and standing. You need to monitor the performance of your cloud service provider's ITAM program.
Your Cloud Asset Manager certification from ITAM IQ demonstrates that you completed the industry’s most complete and thorough training for managing cloud assets. Organizations across the globe are adopting the cloud to run critical systems in their business, and this technology needs to be managed by certified personnel.
The Cloud Asset Management certification course addresses asset management of the SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS cloud service types. The SaaSAM certification course addresses only SaaS cloud service type. If you take the CAM course, you do not need to take the SaaSAM course as this information will be covered.
Yes! You can take the SaaSAM certification course, which only addresses the SaaS cloud service.
There is a saying, “you can’t secure what you don’t know you have.” The IT asset inventory requires an accurate inventory. An accurate inventory can only be achieved by managing the asset’s lifecycle, which is attack surface management in cyber security. Enhance your ITAM and cyber security efforts with ITAM IQ's ITAM / Cyber Security Workshop and Mapping.
Because of the threats, IT cyber security has the attention of executive management. This also means they have a growing budget. ITAM should be partially funded by IT cyber security because of the framework requirements of an accurate inventory.
If you are an IT cyber security or IT professional, understanding how ITAM is the foundation for IT cyber security will help you accelerate the maturity of your organization’s cyber security initiative. Our ITAM / Cyber Security Workshop will be an excellent addition to your cyber security certifications and IT certifications.
This workshop provides you with the knowledge to help advance the relationship between ITAM and IT cyber security (more visibility for you) and help you advance your career. An IT asset manager needs to be a well-rounded individual who understands finance, legal, contracts, technology, compliance, and IT security.
The textbook, a presentation (narrated in the workshop), the spreadsheet, and a certificate of completion. The spreadsheet includes the mapping between ITAM and CIS’s security controls, ITAM program components grouped by security controls, and security controls grouped by ITAM program components, with the ability to assess your current organization.
